Seven ateliers
Seven rooms. Every maison lives in one. The category is the first analytical act — mix fashion with watches and you will misread both. A house is filed by the object it would still be if you stripped the logo off, which is why Chanel's beauty counter does not pull Chanel out of fashion and Porsche does not sit in fashion no matter how many brand tables put it above a bag.
The seven rooms
- 25 Fashion & Couture Led here by No. 1 Hermès
- 15 Fine Jewelry Led here by No. 26 Cartier
- 18 Haute Horology Led here by No. 41 Rolex
- 15 Automotive Led here by No. 59 Porsche
- 10 Beauty & Fragrance Led here by No. 74 Guerlain
- 8 Hospitality Led here by No. 84 Four Seasons
- 9 Spirits & Gastronomy Led here by No. 92 Dom Pérignon
The seven counts are 25, 15, 18, 15, 10, 8 and 9, and they sum to one hundred. The build fails if they ever do not, and it fails if a maison is filed to a room that does not exist. How the filing rule is applied, and the places it is a judgement rather than a fact, are set out on the méthode page.
